Which Sangram Singh?

This profile needs special care. The Ministry of Culture’s repository holds two separate freedom-fighter records from Rudraprayag: “Sangram Singh” and “Sangram Singh Rawat”.

This story is only about the Sangram Singh whom the official Digital District Repository records as born in 1894 in the Nala, Guptkashi area, and who joined the Indian Army in 1924.

A soldier in the movement

The government repository presents him in a double role, as soldier and freedom fighter. According to the record, he took part in the freedom movement alongside his military service, mobilised fellow soldiers and civilians, and later worked for social uplift.

The official page also lists honours from his military service: the 1939–45 Star, the War Medal, the India Service Medal and the Burma Star.

Getting identity right

He died on 10 April 1951. The most important editorial rule here is not to merge him with Sangram Singh Rawat, the INA participant linked to Sari village, whose official page and chronology are different.

For an archive of unsung heroes, his case shows how much identity matters: name, village, dates and service record must all match before two stories are treated as one.
