Engineering from Kerala

Tessy Thomas was born in Kerala and built a career in engineering and guided-missile technology.

After joining DRDO she worked within the Integrated Guided Missile Development ecosystem.

Guidance and integration

In different phases of the Agni series she held roles in systems engineering, guidance and project leadership, and she is especially associated with the Agni-IV and Agni-V programmes. Guidance, navigation, control and the integration of many subsystems were areas where her leadership mattered.

Complex engineering missions succeed not through individual genius but through disciplined systems integration, in which the whole is tested again and again.

Leadership and visibility

She rose to senior DRDO posts such as Director General (Aeronautical Systems). Decades of technical progress and high-responsibility leadership in a male-dominated defence-engineering environment were a major professional milestone.

Her career has raised the visibility of women engineers in strategic technology programmes and made her a role model for STEM leadership. Representation and technical competence go together.
