What the DD News feature says
On 6 August 2026, DD News featured Gorakhnath Singh as one of “India’s unsung freedom fighters”, a brave revolutionary linked to the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA). Its graphic names Bhojpur in Bihar, and says he joined the freedom movement as a school student, became an active HSRA member, led a daring prison escape during the Quit India Movement, and gave his life for India’s freedom at a young age.
What we could not yet confirm
We have not found a strong primary record that independently establishes his birth, his exact district, specific HSRA actions, his arrest and imprisonment, or his death. The history of the HSRA itself is well documented, but it would be wrong to write the organisation’s general activities into one man’s life without records about him in particular.
Where his story may be waiting
So this page is not a finished biography. It is a research file. The next places to look are the Ministry of Culture’s Digital District Repository, the Bihar State Archives, district gazetteers, the National Archives of India, freedom-fighter pension files, colonial police and intelligence records, and the revolutionary writing of the time.
The best way to honour a forgotten freedom fighter is not to exaggerate his story, but to recover it from the original records. If you have documents about Gorakhnath Singh, please use “Nominate a hero” to share them.
