Two teachers, two far corners of India

In rural Deoghar, Jharkhand, Shweta Sharma uses teaching rooted in children’s own surroundings, including the ‘Abua Jadui Pitara’, to keep them in school and learning.

Far to the east, in the remote East Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya, Heipor Uni Bang built his own school and brought inclusive teaching to it, with particular support for children with special needs.

Both are recipients of the National Teachers’ Award. Neither is famous. Both changed the daily lives of the children in front of them.
